Surfstory 29/12

3 out of 6 surfers that day thought it was a great idea to go to sea! Thom Jasper and Maas packed the trailer and headed to Wijk aan Zee early in the morning. We met the old chair of Weth 2002! And the wind was quite on-shore and gusty, so with optimism the 4.5's were rigged. However after 3 attempts to dobber in the currents Maas and Thom ended up walking all the way back upwind. Jasper managed to get out 2 times. Jasper and Maas agreed to try a couple more times but when Maas attempted to beachstart suddenly the mast was not as straight as it was before.... Luckily it didn't happen far out! After this the optimism was gone a bit. A heads or tails decided whether to continue or not.... Sadly it was time to return home ;). On the way back we picked up a new mast to compensate for the broken one (340 who knows somebody might still claim it), and looked at the new Weth foil+board and brought it home!

Surfstory 23/12

Whilst having a beer during the van Lint week Tjibbe and Niels were looking at the forecast. After a few more convincing beers Tjibbe was in. Wind of awesome proportions was predicted with only one spot in mind Herkingen or speed heaven. As no tides there was no rush as this would be done on the water. At arrival Niels did have a nice call with the police after a accidentaly call 112. A great start of the session was made by Tjibbe who forgot his watershoes luckily a fellow surfer had a pair of thin watershoes that could be borrowed for the biggest part of the session. Niles had a single goal a new PR. He did manage to get it but only after having a week catapult at 10km/h which did break Maas’ sail (carefully borrowed by Niels). This meant that slalom and wave would come close, even with a wavesail he managed to go 53,6km/h. Niels his luck ended early again as his GPS battery was dead. But he for sure went faster are receiving tips from the locals. Tjibbe was also out of luck as the watershoes he had borrowed needed to be returned. Crazy as he might be he decided to still surf since colder feet were a better option then no surf in these conditions. The final runs were done with a setting sun and a orange sky. It was like surfing a speedy dream as they it all went so fast. Afterwards the boys regained some strengths at Hettys. With quick regards the stillo surfers Niels and Tjibbe.

Surfstory 22/12

With Christmas in sight, Chris, Sim, Ruben, Dirk, Sven, Maas, Thom, Fedde and Jasper wanted to get some exercise in before all the food. They decided to go to chickiepolder for a good wave sesh. Due to an early start (read: get out of bed early), the tide was still good for some waves. The wind was also really nice. This meant jumping and waverides. However the current caused a bit of walking. For Chris and Sim kiteloops were on the planning and for Maas and Jasper forward loops! Maas and Jasper tried, but did not succeed. Despite being a but tired and hungover, Fedde managed to keep himself and the gear in good shape this time! Thom did a tack on the sea for the first time. Also Thom and Maas did a race around a buoy, which was tricky because of the current. Jasper showed good manners by retrieving not one but two kiteboards on his windsurf set (and with that becoming a kite captain). Chris decided to fold his kite while being on the water, but luckily did not break anything. With some nice weather, the day was complete! Sea you next time!

Surfstory 17/12

On a nice warm & sunny sunday. 3 WETH'ers decided to go to Wijk aan zee. At 8:30 Tjibbe and Fedde grabbed their gear from the shed. Thom was a bit late because the toilet was occupied by his roommate. Arriving at the spot the wind was around 24 to 28 knots. So we rigged between 4.1 and 4.5. After sailing 2 laps there was a hole in Thoms sail. Luckily PK had some milar tape with them to rapair the sail. After playing in the waves for a while, Fedde took a break to eat his 'kerststol'. Included with PK came 1.5 Bijlsma's none of the our ome Jeppe. After another hole appeared in Thoms sail he didn't want to repair it so just went with it. It didn't tear luckily. Tjibbe had a hard time getting through the shore break, but it went much better than the last time. He did get a bit seasick again unfortunately, so he got off the water after that. Thom and Fedde rode some waves together turning through each other. When the sun began to set. Fedde also got off the water. And of course Thom continued sailing until it was dark the view was magical with the combination of the light from tata steel, the moon and the afterglow of the sun. With a smile he left the water with a total distance 59km more then the hoped 58,37! After derigging our gear we drove back to Eindhoven. In the car Fedde was eating a pomelo and fed Thom some pieces in his mouth while he was driving.

Surfstory 25/11

On Saturday November 25 Thom, Joep, Fedde and Maas were thirsty for some big waves, so they went to IJmuiden! The wind was between 20 and 25 knots during the day with gusts going to 30 kts. At the spot they first collected a new sail bought from marktplaats from a guy who also went surfing on this spot. After rigging our gear we went to the water. Fedde was able to test his new board properly this time since it was repaired last Monday, but he did bring an extra board just in case. Joep chose to go kiting this time, and saw the biggest wave of his life👀🌊 ~4m. Maas got a wave that fell on his neck. After 2.5 hours Maas was too cold and called it a day. Fedde took a good lunch break and started shredding again after that, made some nice jumps and good wave rides. For Thom it felt like his first sea session at the beginning, but after a while managed to do some great wave riding, on one wave he even made 8 turns. We also met our sister association PK who were at the same spot.
On our way back we went through Haarlem to collect 3 sails 1 boom and 1 board from another marktplaats guy.
To conclude, great session, great waves, great time.

Surfstory 24/11

After sleeping in(because of the CoBo the day before) Thom and Jan decided to go surfing. The car of Thom was so full of surfing gear that Jan had to be the look out on the right during driving also the poke and handbrake were hard to reach. It was a whole adventure but eventually they did reach strand Horst. Stepping outside of the car they realised that they would both use their smallest sail(Jan:4.2 Thom:5.6) because the wind was a bit harder than predicted(25-30 knots). Between the times where the wind was a bit to hard for them they did enjoy their time in the water a lot, Jan feld like he was flying flying for the first time(and did fly a couple of time as well unfortunately), Thom unfortunately did realise that his ankle is not yes fully healed therefor some breaks were needed but he did reach 52km/h. Overall a good session :)

Surfstory 19/11: Sick sea sesh

On Sea-sunday 7 windsurfers and a kiter collect to go surfing at Ouddorp. We came to the shed at 7:15 and packed swiftly because of the tide. At the spot we all rigger 4.2-4.7 and expected 25 knots of wind, which turned out to be more 20, after some bobbing the wind picked and all had great fun! For Tjibbe it was however after an hour or so enough since he was a bit sea sick. But he still had a great first sea experience. Niels his first session at sea went very well, after getting to know the shore break. Fedde made sure to break his board immediately so he wouldn't have to surf anymore.....
Joep, Jasper, Maas and Thom had a great time playing in the waves. Jasper attempted some forwards (again), and Thom and Maas rode some party waves with the two of them. Stefan also had a great time and represented the kiters very well! Jumping on waves and losing his board. After 3,5 hours of surfing for most it was enough, Joep rigged his kite and jumped a new record of 8.5 meters!, Thom also kited for half an hour and off course Fedde was not fed up with surfing yet, going into the waves on Tjibbes board. At the end we were all happy to get some fries (and for Fedde half a chicken) at Hetty's and were back in Eindhoven arround 20:30.

Surfstory 13/11

On monday Jasper, Joep and Fedde decided to go windsurfing. We went to a new spot, Bommenede! A perfect spot for some speedsurfing💨. After rigging our gear, we went on the water. The wind was very strong +/- 30 knots. Fedde went back to put some more downhaul on his sail, but when he wanted to connect his board with the sail, the board got blown away by the wind and the fin pierced the sail. After that Fedde rigged the 3.7m2 sail which was still enough for this wind. Jasper and Joep both exceeded the 60 km/h🤯. After more than 100km surfed by jasper, we had to go off the water because it got dark. Derigging our gear and packing the car in the dark turned out to be a bit of a challenge. When that was done we went to our usual Hetty's to get some fries. Ater a long and powerfull session I'm sure we'll sleep well tonight😴.

Surfstory 10/11: After exams session

While everyone was on the water I was still grinding for my exams. But I hoped for wind on Friday and there was lots of it. While I was almost fully rigged my dad decided to sabotage me but putting his fin through my sail 🥲. But a few pieces of Mylar later I was ready to go. And even my dad’s sabtage didn’t work as on my first reach I got a new top speed of 56.3 km/h. After some speed runs I decided to train my jibes and almost did a planing jibe. With some great stats on the board I was happy to go home (like best 5 avg 10 sec top speed of 53.2 and best 5 km of 37.1). Hope to join the next sessions. Hang Loose, Mathijs

Surf Story 9/11

On Thursday morning, Levi, Sander, Niels, Fedde, and Ruben gathered at 9:00 AM (Levi decided to sleep a bit longer and therefore arrived at 9:30) to go surfing. The wind predictions were not in agreement, and we decided to go to Rockanje so that the wind- and kite surfers could be at the same spot. The wind was very good at the start. Ruben made his first official jump but had to do a walk of shame later on. Sander had several good jumps. Niels and Fedde went on an exploration trip and disappeared from view. Levi had the time of his life both on the water and in the playground (see photo). After two hours of surfing, it started to rain, and unfortunately, the wind died down completely. Hopeful for a comeback, we waited in the crow's nest of the playground, but eventually, the kiters decided it was enough for the day. Fedde and Niels, however, continued tirelessly. Despite the ever-changing wind, it was a successful day!

Surf Story 8/11/2023

It was a special day, Fedde turned 21. For his children's party, Maas Tjibbe Gijs Fedde Renee Masa Edijs and Marlieke went to beautiful Brouwersdam. 🤩
The trailer was already packed the evening before, including the new tandem👀. We started the day well with some delicious cake in the bus. After a few tourist detours we arrived at the spot at 11:15. The wind was, as predicted, about 22 to 26 knots. Tjibbe and Fedde took the tandem (also known as “Henkie”) and sailed a few nice meters with it.💙🧡 For Marlieke and Rene the wind was quite challenging and they fled. quickly to the pool. The men with the long hair had surfed to the Osse to enjoy the flat water. The way back went less smoothly, Maas made a catapult that split his board open and Fedde was stranded on an oyster bed. ☹At the same time, things went a lot better in the pool. Gijs and Tjibbe decided to give the pool a chance. The wind became stronger, with gusts of up to 35 knots. Marlieke experienced what it is like to plane for the first time. At 4:00 PM everyone was cold and it was time to drink some hot chocolate with whipped cream (for Gijs and Tjibbe with rum, for the extra warmth :)) After we had warmed up we started our journey home. This time again with cake.
All in all a windy session

Surfstory 8 november
